Overview

Welcome to Gulf International School website!

Parent involvement is such an important factor in student success in a school. We become a team - parent/ teacher/ student - all with the same goal of providing the best educational experience for your child.

You will be able to obtain, through our Parent/ Teacher Interface on our website, your child's information i.e. homework, calendar, testing etc.

As well, on our website, you will find posted a periodic Principal's newsletter and a calendar noting special days, assignments and tests. On the Calendar, you will note, "Professional Development Days/ Early Dismissal Days". These times are utilized by staff to receive upgrading, training and educational theories such as Multiple Intelligences and current research on the brain and how it works. This allows teachers to try new methods in the classroom thus creating a new path toward helping each student reach his/ her potential and maintaining strong self esteem while doing so. Apart from these days as noted on the School Calendar, written notices are sent home one week prior to the Professional Day and always the day before.

Not only will the teachers' and the Principal's newsletter be available on the computer, a copy will also be sent home with your child at the beginning of each month.

The staff will be in close contact with you after your child first joins the school. We expect you will receive "sunshine" calls (when the day has gone particularly well) and support calls (when we need information and help from you to provide parental expertise) when the day has not gone very well.

Students from Grade 1 upward will receive a Communication Book to be completed daily. This will assist, as well, in close communication between school and home.

Gulf International School has scheduled Interview Days around report card dates, Parents Nights and Information Nights. Ready access to your child's teacher will be provided by the internet, and during school hours, by telephone. We especially encourage communication from home, when something has occurred, health or family wise, that would affect your child's day.

We have created a Parent/Teacher Association. We would like to encourage our Parents to be fully involved with our school beyond fundraising. We need your valuable opinions and suggestions. Please consider joining us.

It would be appreciated if you would read and discuss with your child, the behavioral expectations as listed under "Student Life"
